Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision

This is a qualification that confirms competency in site supervision in the construction industry and consists of 14 units of study. Within the qualification you will look at the following topic areas:

  • Confirming methods of work, activities and resources
  • Implementing and maintaining health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Co-ordinating and organising work operations in the workplace
  • Developing and maintaining good occuaptional working relationships

All of the units within the qualification relate to the skills and knowledge required to become a work supervisor in the construction industry, and there are a further range of units to choose from that covers aspects such as allocating equipment, plant or machinery, monitoring progress, confirming work meets quality standards, assessing team performance, confirming dimensional control of work and circulating project information.

You will take this Level 3 NVQ qualification if you are currently employed or have previously been employed in the construction industry and are required to supervise the work of others. Achieving this qualification allows you to demonstrate your ability to work safely and competently to a recognised national standard.

NVQ Diplomas such as this teach you advanced skills and help you progress in your current job to a supervisory role. 

What could the qualification lead to?

This qualification prepares you for work at a supervisory level in the construction industry, with a specific focus on site supervision. Upon completion you can apply to CSCS, or other industry card schemes, to gain a recognized gold supervisory skills card. Once achieved you can then progress onto the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management.

Duration of the course

This course will last for up to 9 months and will be delivered on site.  Workshops may also be arragned at he Somerton Academy where additional kwowledge is required.  All evidence will be stored on an electronic portfolio, this is a great tool as you will be able to quickly identify evidence whilst working on site and upload it straight to your portfolio via a app which can be placed on your smart phone or tablet, your assessor will then be able to check your evidence remotely and provide feedback to you as you progress.  Full support and guidance will be provided on the use of the e-portfolio system and technical support will be available during normal office hours.

Entry Requirements

You should already be working as a supervisor within engineering or construction.  You need to be over the age of 18 due to the health and safety and supervision responsibilities required to take this qualification. 

NB: For force resettlement learners - This course will require approval from ELCAS should you wish to study this as part of your resettlement programme, call for further details.
