This 4 week Level 3 Certificate in Building, Installation and Property Maintenance course, will provide a good understanding of how to repair and maintain buildings as well as develop new building projects by gaining skills in bricklaying, carpentry, plastering, and plumbing. It is a fantastic course that provides a range of practical training across all trades allowing a second career in property development or skills for renovating a property.
Course Content
Bricklaying:
- Understand different materials and bonds
- Hand, power tools and equipment used in bricklaying
- Demonstrate planning, organising and setting out a work area
- Build half brick and full brick walls, 90-degree return corners, and attached piers
- Demonstrate producing neat and tidy cuts to bricks
- Pointing and finishing
Carpentry:
- Understand the hand and power tools used in carpentry & joinery
- Understand the different materials and why they are used
- First and second fixing
- Build a stud partition, leaving a door opening
- Install a door lining, hang a door and fit door furniture
- Fix architrave and skirting boards.
Plastering:
- Understand the different tools and equipment used in Plastering
- Know how to carry out preparations required prior to Plastering
- Gain knowledge of different backgrounds that receive Plaster
- Apply plaster to plaster-boarded walls
- Apply plaster to previously plastered walls
- Measure, and cut plaster boards and fix these to different backgrounds
- Apply plaster to a full ceiling
- Patch and repair damaged walls and ceilings
Plumbing & Electrical:
- Identify plumbing tools and materials and learn how to use them safely
- Knowledge of basic plumbing/electric involved in property maintenance
Who is this course for?
This course is for those leaving the Armed Forces who are looking to enter into the world of property development and property conversions or the construction industry on site.
Assessment method
Learners will be assessed through practical competence and application of knowledge.
Progression
There is opportunity to progress onto further training within construction or embark upon an Assistant Site management programme if a career in Construction Management is required.
Course Requirements*
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided for the duration of the course, but learners must provide and wear safety footwear on site at all times.
