This 12 month course will teach you a range of knowledge and practical skills.  You will perform a variety of tasks in order to maintain properties or carry out general repairs, including small plumbing and electrical repairs, carpentry, painting and tiling.  This is a great qualification if you are really unsure of what trade you would enjoy as it gives you a small taste of a range of trades.  It is also a great programme that enables employers to carry out in house ‘apprenticeship’ training in their own field, whilst learners get to grips with a whole host of other trade skills that could be utilised across the business.

Whilst undertaking an Apprenticeship, you will study a mixture of both work-based learning and training at Train4All.  You will work with an employer and earn a wage whilst learning a City & Guilds accredited trade and will also have to pass an Independent End Point Assessment to prove your skills and knowledge.


The apprenticeship standard you will follow is made up of:

  • Working with an employer – putting what you have learnt into practice and gaining valuable work skills
  • Functional skills in Maths and English (if required) –  improving  Maths and English skills relevant to your trade
  • Passing an Independent End Point Assessment

Within this apprenticeship you will learn learn the following:

  • Understand the roles, responsibilities and reporting procedures of a property maintenance operative
  • Understand energy, environment and sustainable practices within property maintenance
  • Health and safety in property maintenance
  • Apply good customer service in property maintenance
  • Carrying out painting and tiling tasks
  • Plan and carry out preventative property maintenance
  • Carry out plumbing maintenance and repairs
  • Carry out electrical testing and repairs
  • Understand and maintain heating ventilation and air conditioning plant
  • Internal and External Building Fabric Maintenance
  • Control of property maintenance related resources and equipment
  • Working with external contractors
