ECITB Engineering Scholarship - 2026-2027

ECITB Scholarships equip the next generation of engineers with the skills needed for engineering construction projects both for now and the future. This exciting full-time off-the-job engineering programme enables learners to gain the requisite industrial skills and knowledge as well as an industry-recognised qualification and CCNSG Safety passport, preparing them for potential progression onto a suitable Level 3 apprenticeship when they successfully complete the scholarship in either Welding or Plating.

The Scholarship includes a learner weekly allowance of £60.00 during term time, subject to meeting strict attendance requirements, and will be delivered at our South West Welding Academy in Somerton from September - June .

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants will ideally be aged 16-19 years.
  • Possess Level 2 English and maths (GCSE grade 4 or above) or willing to achieve.
  • Dedication and commitment to achieve the scholarship and progress attending 3 days per week
  • Have the desire and drive to progress onto a potential apprenticeship in either Plate Welding or Metal Fabrication.

Course Programme

  • Industrial skills and knowledge training for 3 days a week.
  • Level 2 qualification relevant to scholarship awarded - Welding or Plating
  • Online content – ECITB Digital Passport, clean energy technologies and behavioural based safety.
  • ECITB Pre-Employment Programme which includes:
    • CCNSG Safety Passport
    • Working safely with hand tools, power tools and equipment
    • Manual handling
    • Medium risk confined space
    • Working at height
    • Abrasive wheels (handheld and bench mounted)
    • Fire Watcher
    • Introduction to Nuclear
    • Work placements with engineering construction employers with potential progression onto a L3 Plate Welding or L3 Metal Fabrication Apprenticeship
  • Regular meetings with employers looking for new talent.
  • Work placements with engineering construction employers with. potential progression onto a L3 Plate Welding Apprenticeship.

How to apply

Places are limited for the scholarship and therefore applications must be received by 26th June.  It is anticipated the selection process will be as follows:

Stage 1 – January - June

Stage 2 – March - June - Initial Assessment Days

  • Initial interview with Train4All
  • Practical Skill Scan
  • Provisional course place offered to successful applicants - pending second interview and GCSE grades

Stage 3 – July/August

  • Second interview with Train4All, ECITB and/or prospective employers
  • Industry Awareness Day

Stage 4 – August/September

  • Formal offer of scholarship awarded
  • Commence programme 7th September 2026

NB: If you are in year 11 at school, please do inform your careers advisor that you wish to apply for the scholarship, they may be able to help with your letter of application.  We may also ask for a reference from the school to assess suitability to the scholarship programme.

Course Requirements*

Learners will be provided with all PPE for the duration of the scholarship.
